FoodVault is excited to welcome Schoc Chocolates, the Greytown-based chocolate maker creating handmade gourmet chocolates with a seriously adventurous approach to flavour.

Since opening in Greytown in 2002, Schoc has built a reputation for doing chocolate a little differently — and with more than 50 flavours in its tablet range alone, there is plenty to discover.

Handmade chocolate from Greytown

Schoc Chocolates began in a tiny turn-of-the-century cottage on Greytown's Main Street, where founder Murray Langham opened a chocolate studio alongside his work exploring the connection between chocolate and self-discovery.

Today, Schoc continues to make its chocolates by hand in Greytown, with its chocolate studio and store located on Main Street in the Wairarapa.

It's a distinctly Kiwi chocolate business with a big focus on creativity, flavour and making chocolate that gives people something to talk about.

Chocolate flavours you probably won't find everywhere

This is where Schoc gets interesting.

Alongside classics like milk chocolate, dark chocolate, strawberry and caramel, the range ventures into some seriously unconventional combinations.

Think lime & chilli, sea salt, pink peppercorn, lemon & white, cardamom, ginger, fennel, coffee & walnut and strawberry & black pepper. There are even flavours such as curry & pappadums and ghost pepper chilli for those feeling particularly brave.

The result is a chocolate range built for discovery.

You can stick with your favourite — or grab a few different flavours and see where your taste buds take you.

More than just chocolate bars

Schoc's range goes well beyond its famous chocolate tablets.

There are boxed chocolates and truffles, vegan chocolates, hampers, bagged chocolates and chocolates designed for cooking and baking. Its Schoc Chef range includes cooking chocolate, cocoa and products designed for making chocolate creations and hot chocolates at home.

And if you're looking for a gift, there are plenty of options too, from assorted chocolate boxes and tasting selections to hampers and personalised chocolate combinations.

Real ingredients and a focus on responsible sourcing

Schoc sources cacao beans from growing regions including Tanzania, Java, Papua New Guinea, Ecuador, Ghana, Madagascar and other cacao-producing countries.

The company says its growers are treated fairly and respectfully, with sustainability and farmer livelihoods forming part of its approach to sourcing. Schoc also uses real flavours, organic flavourings where possible, and doesn't add extra sugar apart from its caramels.

It's another part of what makes Schoc interesting: there's plenty of creativity in the chocolate, but there's also a genuine focus on how it's made and where its ingredients come from.
