Classic Chocolate Brownies

Nothing beats a homemade brownie fresh from the oven. This simple recipe creates perfectly fudgy brownies with a crackly top and an irresistibly rich chocolate flavour.

Ingredients

200g dark chocolate

180g unsalted butter

1 cup caster sugar

½ cup brown sugar

3 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup plain flour

¼ cup cocoa powder

½ teaspoon salt

100g chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 180°C and line a 20cm square baking tin with baking paper.

Melt the butter and dark chocolate together over low heat or in the microwave, stirring until smooth.

Add both sugars and whisk until combined.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, then gently fold everything together until just combined.

Stir through the chocolate chips if using.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking tin and spread evenly.

Bake for 25–30 minutes. The centre should still be slightly soft for a fudgy texture.

Allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing into squares.
